Your Thoughts - Good & Bad

challenging-your-thoughts-life-coaching-tips

You’re human, and because you are human you will have good AND bad thoughts in equal proportion.

If you remember, circumstances are always neutral and it’s just the thought that you choose to have about that circumstance that creates a negative or positive experience/feeling.

So why wouldn’t you just choose to think everything is awesome all of the time? Well because you want and need to have the human experience of contrasting feeling – it’s what makes good feelings good and bad feelings bad, the contrast.

We choose to believe that certain experiences are bad, due to the way we were raised, due to widespread agreement and due to our values. We want to feel pain and sadness over death and abuse so we in turn choose thoughts about those circumstances that create painful and sad feelings.

This is a hard concept to grasp but once you understand it, you will realize that big and small, good and bad,- things we believe to be truths are often just choices.

This is such good news because if you can be more conscious about the negative – non serving thoughts you are having you can be deliberate in changing them.

How many times have you thought: “I’m not good enough” or “I should be happier”, or “I should be better”?

I want you to ask yourself the following:

  • Why am I choosing to believe that?
  • Is there any part of this thought that is not factual?
  • What part of this thought is my opinion? What would I say to friend or a child having this thought?
  • How would my life change if I changed this one thought?
  • What is a BELIEVABLE, better thought?

How do you feel when you think that (better) thought? How will you behave when you feel this way? What is the result of that action/behavior?

The Bottom Line – Different results come from choosing different thoughts.
